The pass mark is 43 out of 50 for the multiple-choice questions. You must also pass the Hazard Perception Test, which is taken at the same time.
As of 2025, the standard fee for a car theory test in the UK is £23. This fee covers both the multiple-choice section and the hazard perception test.
The test has two parts. The first is a 50-question multiple-choice test based on the Highway Code. The second is the Hazard Perception Test, where you will watch 14 video clips and click to identify developing hazards.
There are 50 multiple-choice questions in the first section. You have 57 minutes to complete this part, and you need to get 43 out of 50 correct to pass.
